Your home is full of dust, allergens, and pollutants you never see, and your HVAC filter is the first line of defense. But a filter only works if it actually fits and matches your system. Here’s what a “perfect fit” air filter really means.
What “Perfect Fit” Means
A perfect-fit filter is simply one that’s the correct size and the correct rating for your specific system. Too small and air slips around it unfiltered; too restrictive and it chokes airflow and strains the equipment. The right fit filters effectively without fighting your system.
Getting the Size Right
Filter size is printed on the frame of your current filter (length by width by thickness). Always match it exactly, and note the airflow-direction arrow when you install the new one.
Understanding the Rating
Filters carry a MERV rating that measures how much they capture. Higher numbers trap finer particles, but only go as high as your system is designed to handle, or you’ll restrict airflow. For most homes, a mid-range pleated filter hits the sweet spot.
