If your AC is running but barely pushing any air, your house heats up while your system works overtime, exactly the opposite of what you want in a Spokane summer. Weak airflow is a common complaint with a handful of usual causes. Here’s what’s likely behind it.
Common Causes of Weak AC Airflow
A clogged air filter
The most common cause, by far. Dust, pet dander, and grime choke the filter and strangle airflow. Check and replace it first.
Blocked or leaky ductwork
Air leaking out of, or blocked inside, your ducts means less of it reaches your rooms. Crushed, disconnected, or dirty ducts all sap airflow.
A failing blower fan
The blower is what pushes conditioned air through your home. If its motor is weak or failing, airflow drops noticeably.
Dirty or frozen coils
Grimy or iced-over coils restrict the air moving through the system.
Closed or blocked vents
Furniture over a register or too many closed vents can throw off the whole system’s airflow.
What to Try First
Replace the filter, open and unblock your vents, and clear the outdoor unit. If airflow is still weak, the problem is likely in the ducts, blower, or coils, which calls for a technician.
